It was not only my first trip to Mexico, but also it was our first time to stay in an all-inclusive resort, because we have always been more adventurous and wanted to discover the area and local cuisine wherever we’re traveling. But this time we felt like trying one and we chose probably the best resort in Riviera Maya - Barcelo Maya Grand Resort. And when you’re staying there, you really don't have to leave the resort, because the concept allows guests to enjoy the services of more than one hotel thanks to their philosophy "Stay in 1 and play in 4" we actually didn’t leave the hotel once during our stay. But also we didn't stay only at Barcelo, we decided to go and experience a few other resorts and also an eco luxury villa in Tulum. But that already in my future posts that are coming out next week! Anyway, more about the fabulous resort - located around a 45-minute drive from Cancun’s airport and 20 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen, the best way to get to the hotel is to book a transfer at the airport. We also booked the transfer back to the airport and paid it in advance, so we didn’t have to worry about it later on.
The all inclusive Barceló Maya Grand Resort, has also been recognised as one of the best hotels in Mexico in 2010 by Travel + Leisure, actually comprises of five hotels: Barceló Maya Beach, Barceló Maya Colonial, Barceló Maya Caribe, Barceló Maya Palace and Barceló Maya Tropical. So when you stay at one of them, you get exclusive access to five hotels! We chose to book a swim-up Junior Suite at Barcelo Maya Caribe and it was definitely worth it. Renovated in 2014, the rooms and facilities for the Premium Club look impeccable and we chose to stay at one of their 26 swim up jacuzzi rooms (55 m²) that gave us direct access to the pool with a hot tub in the terrace, and this was exactly how I imagined a luxurious romantic Mexican getaway to look and feel like. Thanks to the advantages of Premium Level, we could also enjoy a choice selection of petit fours and a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival as well as welcome bottle of bubbly in our suite! Another reason to go Premium at Barcelo is the fact that you can use the concierge service, the 24-hour room service as well as resort-wide Wi-Fi. The hotel staff is very friendly and professional and will make sure you’ll be attended and taken care of at all times. And even though it’s a ‘grand’ resort with hundreds of guests, the size of the hotel and the numerous facilities allow you to find the perfect pool, restaurant or sun beds under the palm to make your holiday whatever you want it to be - a family oriented trip or a romantic getaway for two..
