Provence Holiday #12: The Chateau from 'A Good Year' Movie

I’m sure everyone has seen the movie ‘A Good Year’ with Russel Crowe and Marion Cotillard, a simple feel-good movie filled with wine and romance and stunning shots of Provence. Even though it’s been 11 years since it came out in 2006, people still visit the stunning Chateau La Canorgue vineyard where the main scenes of the movie were shot. And the Chateau owners are not really happy about it, even on their website it says: No visits of the film location. But to be honest they should be delighted with the press and the marketing the wines are getting out of it - why lend your house for a movie in the first place? But of course, in a way I understand them, they have had some very intruding and rude guests that have made them become so reluctant as they are today. Anyway, we decided to pay a visit to the vineyard, try some wines and are some shots of the lovely Chateau. And the person attending us was actually really friendly, making us feel welcome and of course we had to buy some of their amazing organic wines (including Coin Perdu) that have been developed by the same family for more than 200 years! Based on the book by Peter Mayle, the movie is directed by Ridley Scott who has a house in the area and fell in love with the stunning Chateau. It’s located at the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, between Avignon and Aix en Provence, very near Bonnieux Village. So if you’re in the area, I really recommend to try their wines and you can also find their wines in many of the local restaurants. For example, we enjoyed the wine at La Trinquette in Gordes and also in L’Arome restaurant in Bonnieux - both were excellent restaurants and the wine is as good as you imagine it to be! To see more of where ‘A Good Year’ was shot, check out my blog post about Gordes Village.
