Every Sunday you’ll find the largest outdoor market in the Luberon area in a lovely little village called Isle sur la Sorgue just 25km southeast of Avignon. Because of its charming canals and branches of the Sorgue this ancient Provençal village is known as the Venice of the Comtat. Besides its Sunday Market, Isle sur la Sorgue has the largest concentration of vintage stores outside Paris. And twice a year, at Easter and in August, it transforms into a giant, open-air flea market called the International Antiques Fair which is the biggest in Europe.
We had a lovely stroll down the streets of the town and I even bought two lovely little jewellery boxes for just 10€. But besides antiques you can find everything from food to souvenirs here. Of course we had to stop for some wine and cheese at a local little place next to the river. I definitely recommend visiting the Sunday Market here, but make sure to arrive early (around 10-11) as it gets really busy and the restaurants get full in just seconds!
