What to do in Seville: Plaza de España

Another top 3 what to do in Seville is definitely seeing the beautiful Plaza de España square and the Maria Luisa park next to it. Built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 it is a stunning landmark example of the Regionalism Architecture, mixing elements of the Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival (Neo-Mudéjar) styles of Spanish architecture.

The Plaza de España complex is a huge half-circle with buildings continually running around the edge accessible over the moat by numerous bridges representing the four ancient kingdoms of Spain. In the centre you will find the Vicente Traver fountain. By the walls of the Plaza you can see many tiled alcoves, each representing a different province of Spain. Today the Plaza de España consists primarily of Government buildings. The Plaza de España of Seville has often been used as a filming location, for movies such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), The Dictator (2012) and also in the music video of Simply Red's song Something Got Me Started.
